Student Leadership Team at IRIS

The Student Leadership Team is a program designed to promote service learning for Intermediate School students. The Student Leadership Team is a group of students interested in helping out around the school, modeling positive behaviors, and helping to promote a climate of acceptance and understanding for all students.

What do student leaders do?

Student leaders:

  • Learn ways to be a good leader (called leadership skills)
  • Help teacher with different jobs
  • Help other students by being a bus “buddy”, a tutor, a peer helper, new student orientation, or a special recess friend
  • Help other staff members such as Mr. Moore, Mrs. Freeman, Ms. Brynn, Ms. Claire
  • Help organize special events and assemblies
  • Help with school-wide projects such as clean-up day, bake sales, character education activities, or food drives
  • Greet visitors to the school and give them a tour
  • Help students to find support resources at school when needed

What is the time commitment?

If you sign up to be a member of the Student Leadership Team you agree to:

  • Attend 2 sessions of leadership training (called Leadership Academy) taught by Mr. Moore, Mrs. Freeman, Ms. Claire and Ms. Brynn. This training would be held after school. There will be a late bus.
  • Depending on how many students sign up, you would be a student leader for half of the school year.
  • You might be doing some of your jobs before 8:45, during lunch, recess, or after school.

How does a student sign-up?

If you are interested in being a student leader you must:

  • Complete the attached application.
  • Turn the application in to Ms. Brynn

 

Once you have applied, Mr. Moore will let you know when you will be working as a student leader. He will also give you a permission slip to attend 2 leadership training sessions calledLeadership Academy. The Leadership Academy will be after school.
