Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)

Dignity for All Students

The Indian River Board of Education, administration, and all staff are committed to providing a safe and orderly school environment where students may receive and district personnel may deliver quality educational services without disruption or interference. Responsible behavior by students, teachers, other district personnel, parents and visitors is essential to achieving this goal.

The District has had a long-standing set of expectations for conduct on school property, at school functions and on school buses. These expectations are based on the principles of civility, mutual respect, citizenship, character, tolerance, dignity, honesty and integrity.

The Code of Conduct defines the expectations for acceptable conduct and identifies possible consequences of unacceptable conduct.

The Code of Conduct was updated and adopted by the Board of Education on June 21, 2012. Revisions to the Code of Conduct focused on The Dignity for All Students Act, the goal of which is to create a safe and supportive school climate where all students can learn and focus, free of discrimination and harassment.

The District will act promptly to investigate all complaints, verbal or written, formal or informal, of allegations of discrimination, harassment and bullying and will promptly take appropriate action to protect individuals from further discrimination, harassment and bullying.
